Hotel Florence Historic Site: Stabilization and Phased Restoration
Phased Restoration of State Historic Site formerly Railroad Baron Pullman’s hotel and office suite

Project included an existing conditions assessment and analysis for reuse. The current construction phase includes: accessibility upgrades, new toilet rooms; new 3-stop elevator sensitively inserted into existing historic fabric; restoration of wall, floor and ceiling finishes at first floor; complete upgrade of electrical, fire detection, security and sprinkler systems including sensitive introduction of ventilation throughout; and new slate roof to match the original.

Designed by architect Solon S. Beman in the Queen Anne style, the hotel was constructed in 1881. A showcase for Town of Pullman to visitors, the 50 room hotel included a luxurious suite reserved for George Pullman’s personal use. The building is a City of Chicago Landmark and an Illinois State Historic Site.
