Denkmann Memorial Hall

Augustana College: Denkmann Memorial Hall
Façade Assessment of Prairie Style Inspired Beaux-Arts Classical Revival Campus Building

Denkmann Memorial Library (now Hall) was designed in the Beaux-Arts Classical Revival style with Prairie Style ornamentation by the architectural firm of Patton and Miller in 1909. The Beaux-Arts style is depicted with large arched windows, columns, cornice and balustrade. Carved stone details include swags, keystones, rusticated courses, leaf decorations, Greek key design, and terra cotta cresting. Predominately clad in Carthage marble, the assessment addressed stone deterioration with recommendations for short and long term repairs.
