Historic Campus Preservation Plan,
Columbia College
Chicago, Illinois

McGuire Igleski & Associates, Inc. developed a Historic Campus Preservation Plan consisting of Building Assessments and development of Historic Building Restoration Guidelines for the College's nine historic buildings. Facilities evaluated include classrooms, studios, offices, auditoriums, libraries, and mechanical systems and infrastructure.

The Preservation Plan includes a detailed contextual history, evaluation of significance, physical description based on a thorough survey, and analysis of the buildings including exterior façade and interior spaces totaling 1,224,000 square feet. Restoration Guidelines were developed to inform campus facilities personnel and building engineers. Materials, finishes and systems adversely affected by deferred maintenance were included with recommendations for repair or replacement.

Originally designed for office and manufacturing uses, these buildings were constructed between 1886 and 1930. Of the nine buildings, five are city of Chicago Landmarks, three are eligible; two are listed in the National Register, six are eligible, and one is eligible for designation as a National Historic Landmark.
