| Mumford House Urbana, Illinois Illinois HABS Documentation McGuire Igleski & Associates, Inc. completed Illinois Historic American Building Survey Level I documentation of the Mumford House, the oldest building on campus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Work included archival research into the history of the building and its significance to rural architecture, the Progressive farming initiative, the School of Agriculture and its association with significant professors of Agriculture who lived in the house. Documentation included written historical and architectural information, on-site measurement of the building and production of complete elevation and plan drawings as well as large format photography. The house is a vernacular Gabled Ell, a wood-frame two-story house clad with wood clapboard siding. It was constructed in 1870 as a model farmhouse and contribution to rural architecture intended as an example of progressive farmhouse design. The house is also significant for its association with Professors of Agriculture who lived in the house. |
