McGuire Igleski & Associates, Inc. completed an Historic Building Preservation Plan which identifies significant building elements and features for preservation and restoration. Project included an intensive survey of exterior and all interior spaces to identify historic building elements for preservation. The survey and summary report included identification of building elements, analysis of condition, and preservation and repair recommendations. The report and database will serve as a reference for long term planning. Consulted to RMJM Hillier for the Library Master Plan to incorporate preservation of the building into the overall plan The Charles Deering Library opened in 1933. The building is significant as the work of nationally renowned architect, James Gamble Rogers as well as for its association with Charles Deering; a successful businessman, fine art connoisseur and member of the prominent Deering family. The building is a fine example of the Collegiate Gothic Style which was intended to be the unifying style of the Northwestern University campus. The building is a City of Evanston Landmark. |
