Rehabilitation of Postville Courthouse Historic Site

MCGUIRE IGLESKI & ASSOCIATES, INC. completed the interior and exterior restoration of courhouse and site elements including the rehabilitation of building components to provide historically authentic elements such as: fireplaces, mantels, windows, walnut clapboard siding and shed. Work also included new heating, plumbing and electrical systems appropriate for the museum collection. Recipient of the Thomas H. Madigan Award for Rehabilitation, 2001.


The original building constructed as the Courthouse for the Logan County seat in 1840 was purchased and moved to Greenfield Village in Michigan. This 1953 reconstruction, an Illinois State Historic Site, is located on the original site and is open to the public as an interpretive Center covering the period during which Postville served as Logan County seat and sduring which Abraham Lincoln practiced law.
