Rehabilitation Tax Credit Certification Application Preparation

The Chicago Housing Authority completed a comprehensive rehabilitation of a 173-unit apartment building for senior housing. The rehabilitation included exterior restoration of masonry and terra cotta and retained and restored historic interior features in public areas and within selected apartments. MIA provided consulting for historic preservation and completed the Rehabilitation Tax Credit Certification Application.  The project received a 2010 City of Chicago Landmarks Preservation Excellence Award.

Originally the Surf Apartment Hotel, the building designed by architect John A. Armstrong in the Spanish Revival style was constructed in 1917. It is in the Lakeview National Register and the Chicago Surf - Pine Grove Historic Districts.
